Write to your MP about the prorogation of parliament and a no-deal Brexit- a template letter

“I am part of the lucrative UK fashion industry, which is worth over £32bn. It’s an industry that’s growing at 11% and employs almost one million individuals. The Creative Industries is the largest growing component of the UK economy, worth over £90bn. However, we are very concerned that the Parliament has not appreciated fully the key issues at stake to the fashion industry here in the UK to remain a global leader, providing jobs, revenue and global reputation as a key innovator.

As your constituent and as a person involved in the fashion industry, I ask that you please position yourself against Parliament being prorogued. If a no deal Brexit were the democratic will of the UK people, then it could be achieved without having to prorogue Parliament. In addition to being detrimental to the fashion industry, a no-deal scenario— secured in a way that silences Parliamentarians and their voters— deeply threatens the democratic status of the UK.

In the case of a no-deal scenario, the fashion industry will require clear communication from Parliament in regard to movement of goods, movement of people and support for SMEs and creatives, who receive EU funding. Speaking to colleagues and other people in the industry, I can assure you that we felt forgotten and overlooked during the Brexit negociations, and it is something we will keep in mind during elections.”
