Points-based immigration system changes
As part of the implementation of the UK Government’s Plan for Growth, the Home Office has made changes to the immigration system, seeing the launch of three new visa routes:

  • Global Business Mobility, opening on 11 April

  • High Potential Individual, opening on 30 May

  • Scale-up, opening on 22 August

Alongside this, following positive feedback from employers about the ability to conduct right to work checks remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, from 6 April, the Home Office is enabling employers to use Identification Document Validation Technology (IDVT) service providers to carry out digital identity checks of British and Irish citizens (with a valid passport) on their behalf.

This means that from 6 April, there will be three ways employers can carry out right to work checks on job applicants:

  • A Home Office online right to work check

  • A manual right to work check

  • A right to work digital identity check using IDVT via the services of third-party identity service providers (IDSP)

Attached is a factsheet providing greater details of these changes along with key eligibility criteria, this can be shared through your channels and within your organisation as needed.

Government understands that the crisis in Ukraine is at the forefront of many of our minds, and that businesses have expressed interest in what immigration support is available both to Ukrainians already in the UK and to those fleeing the conflict.

Information about the immigration routes available for Ukrainian nationals in the UK, British nationals and their family members as well as the support available to them can be found on GOV.UK here. The Employers Guide to Right to Work Checks is also being updated today with an annex on Ukraine to support employers seeking guidance on what documentation Ukrainian nationals will need to prove their right to work.
