Work In Fashion? Now Is The Time To Write To Your MP About Your Views & Rights. Use Our Template Email.

The UK's General Election a week ago has changed the landscape of UK politics. Of the 650 MPs entering the House of Commons, 140 are there for the first time this week. Many won't know about the thriving UK fashion industry, or the incredible value it adds to their constituencies, as well as the national economy (over £32bn).

Writing to your MP is a chance for them to hear about your priorities, highlight where you need their support and make clear what your business needs, both locally and throughout the UK. They are mandated to respond to your concerns as a constituent.

We’ve compiled a draft email for you to send to your local MP, which includes the top concerns currently facing the fashion industry, as informed by our members. It is very easy to locate your newly elected MP and their contact details by typing in your postcode into Parliament’s website. Please include your address when emailing your MP, as this will ensure that the correct team deal with your points. If your concerns are around immigration, taxation, or education for instance, by emailing your MP first, they will be able to best progress these concerns to the relevant departments and then update you on their responses.

TEMPLATE EMAIL / LETTER:

Dear (MP's name),

Congratulations on winning your seat at the General Election last week.

I’m writing to introduce myself and to invite you to visit our offices for a meeting to discuss our priorities (have a specific concern, highlight it here).

I work in the fashion industry, which contributes over £32bn to the UK employing almost 1m and is growing at twice the rate of the economy as a whole. Fashion is the largest component of the creative industries.

Ahead of the General Election, Fashion Roundtable published a Manifesto to highlight our sector’s top priorities. In the New Year, we will collectively work across industry, government, and parliament to ensure that the UK fashion industry continues to thrive. I would like to draw your attention in particular to… (You can choose a key element of our Manifesto or if you have a specific concern that’s unique to your work, include a brief outline here.)

I would welcome a meeting / would like to invite you to our offices to share more about our work and discuss these business priorities. Please do let me know when would work well for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
