// PRESS RELEASE
As farmers take to Westminster in protest at yesterday’s Budget, The Great British Wool Revival is delighted to announce that there is a decade level high in the price of British wool.
The Great British Wool Revival is a pioneering talent initiative launched by Fashion Roundtable in September 2024 in partnership with The King’s Foundation and support from brands including YOOX Net-A-Porter and John Smedley. Aimed at supporting UK sheep farmers in selling their fleeces )as all too often this was a by-product and being dumped or burnt by farmers) and designers in working with British wool.
Just one year later the price of the yearly 'clip' of British wool has reached its highest price in 9 years. In October prices rose by an astonishing 22.5%. This means more farmers now have the opportunity to dual income stream their revenue from sheep, making money from their wool as much as from their meat sales. A timely solution for our nation’s farmers.

Tamara Cincik, Founder and CEO of Fashion Roundtable, Founder of The Great British Wool Revival and Fellow of The King’s Foundation said:
“The price of British wool reaching a 9 year high is evidence that Fashion Roundtable’s pioneering work changes lives and incomes with positive impact. We launched The Great British Wool Revival to plug a gap and refocus attention back on the best of British, from our rural sheep farmers, to our talented designers. UK farmers have faced a series of challenges, so if we can support their income streams by enabling more designers to work with British wool, then not only does this keep value chains UK-wide, it also reduces our carbon footprint by reducing our reliance on global suppliers. This means more support for our rural and urban economies, and income staying inside the UK from farmer to designer. A win-win.”
Notes to Editors:
The Great British Wool Revival was founded in 2024, and the project supports the development and expansion of the British wool industry in the UK through an open-access and interactive map of stakeholders across the supply chain, paired with detailed resources on the best practices for utilising British wool. The initiative connects the dots between farmer and designer, ensuring sustainable income generation for British fleeces while working towards best-practice and proof of concept for fibres grown on British soil.
The Great British Wool Revival, has been showcased at numerous events since its launch, including Groundswell Agriculture, Future Fabrics Expo, London Design Festival, The Knit and Stitch Show, Interwoven: Wool Across Borders with Khadi London x Selvedge Magazine, and Fashion Council Germany x The King’s Foundation youth conference, fast becoming a well recognised change maker.
