Is Sustainable Fashion Screwed?

This week we were quoted over on Tiffanie Darke’s article: Is Sustainable Fashion Screwed?

“Just transition, circular economy, recycling revolution - these are just buzz words,” says Tamara. “If we don’t work from soil to fibre with biodegradeable fabrics, enhancing local communities, we’ll never free ourselves from petrochemical clothing.” The ‘R’ here is ‘regenerative’: regenerative of farmers, craft and communities around the UK, “embedded into our creative wellbeing and economic model. It’s far bigger than the circle - as the answer to the climate emergency needs to be.”

As Fashion Roundtable’s Meg Pirie says: “For circularity to truly work it needs specific interceptors at each point, and this is the part that is seriously missing. It has to go beyond a recycling infrastructure. Cradle to cradle regenerative practises are fundamental to the system and the planet, and currently there is no government support or incentive for brands to do this.”
