We Briefed Ministers on Defra’s New Farming Roadmap
Defra (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) has announced its new Farming Roadmap for 2050: Growing England’s Future, bringing together the UK Government’s long-term strategies, reforms and commitments for farming together in one place. The roadmap recognises that farmers produce 65% of our food, manage 70% of England’s land, and support a £153 billion agri-food industry across food production, manufacturing, retail and catering.
Fashion Roundtable alongside its initiative The Great British Wool Revival briefed Ministers this week on how British wool could be better supported within the roadmap.
Areas that we suggested recommendations for were:
British wool to be recognised alongside food.
Scrutiny for natural fibres under proposals for EPR for textiles.
Public procurement support for British wool.
Procurement is further detailed in Fashion Roundtable’s latest report, ‘Policy Fragmentation and Place- Based Opportunity in UK Fashion and Textiles’.
